Welcome to NYC Diamond District

Located in the heart of New York City, the Diamond District on 47th Street is one of the most powerful diamond trading hubs in the world. More than 90% of all diamonds entering the United States pass through this street, making it a central point of the global diamond industry. This single block is home to over 2,500 independent jewelers, traders, and workshops, where diamonds and fine jewelry are bought, sold, and crafted every day. Transactions worth millions are often sealed with just a handshake, following the traditional trust-based agreement known as “mazal.” Dating back to the 1920s, the district has grown into a global symbol of luxury, craftsmanship, and legacy, with billions of dollars in diamonds moving through this street daily.

Meet Your Host

When you join our New York Tour of Diamonds, you’re not just stepping into the famous Diamond District — you’re stepping into Hemant’s world.

With over 25 years of hands-on experience in the diamond industry, I’ve worked in many crucial roles — from a diamond assorter to a broker, as a grader in a reputed laboratory, and later assisting top diamond merchants as a buyer. Throughout this journey, I’ve had the privilege of inspecting hundreds of diamonds every single day — of all shapes, sizes, and qualities.

What still fascinates me is the intricate process of uncovering a diamond’s true identity:

We’re visiting from Southport, UK, and while planning our NYC adventure with my wife and two daughters, I found **New York Tour of Diamonds** on Google. I thought it would be interesting… I didn’t realize I was signing up to be outnumbered in a room full of sparkling temptation! The tour was honestly fantastic — fun, hands-on, and surprisingly educational. For the first time in my life, I learned how to properly hold and inspect a diamond (apparently, I’ve been doing it wrong this whole time). We also learned about New York’s fascinating history and its major role in the diamond world. The girls were absolutely fascinated, my wife was in her element, and I was doing mental math the entire time. We even bought some beautiful gifts for friends and family back home — because once you’ve held a diamond properly, there’s no going back! Highly recommend this experience if you’re visiting NYC. Just be prepared… you may leave knowing more about diamonds than you ever expected — and possibly shopping more than you planned!

I want to tell you about a great experience I had in the New York Diamond District this past summer. I googled a tour of the Diamond District, and I came up with a name, Hemant Thaker. It was a great educational tour. I was able to see diamond polishing, cutting, diamond setting, and jewelry polishing. and how to hold a diamond properly and look through a loop to see imperfections and flaws. At the end of this tour with Hemant, I was able to buy jewelry gifts with a much better education than I had before. I highly recommend this diamond tour. It’s very enjoyable, very educational, and a lot of fun.

The New York Tour of Diamonds took Our group of 15 on a very delightful, educational and enlightening tour of the workings of the jewelry industry in the diamond District this week. We were shown all of the elements of jewelry creation from the design, making of molds, polishing and stone selection. If you want an excellent tour of the diamond district in New York City, this is the way to go.
